Glossary of Terms

BlockchainRPG has its own vocabulary that mixes classic RPG concepts with blockchain mechanics. This glossary explains the terms you'll encounter while playing, in plain language. Terms are grouped by topic; within each group they're ordered roughly by how early you'll run into them.

World & Lore

Aurum — The continent and game world of BlockchainRPG: unforgiving, untamed, and largely unexplored. Adventurers venture into its wilderness in search of treasure and glory.

New Haven — The single safe town where every adventurer begins their journey. From here, adventurers head out to nearby hunting grounds.

Adventurer — Your in-game persona — a digital extension of you, represented by a Character NFT, who hunts, crafts, and grows stronger in Aurum.

Argenta — The goddess whose blessings provide adventurers with recovery from ailments and injuries.

Characters

Character / Character NFT / Character Card — An NFT that represents a playable character. You must own and stake at least one to play. Characters have their own attributes and rarity, and can hunt, heal, and equip gear.

Recruiting — Activating a staked character so it can be used in-game. As of v5.1.0-beta, staking a character automatically recruits it; the Recruit button is now used to mass-recruit any staked characters that aren't yet recruited.

Rarity — A tier (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary) that affects gameplay. For characters, higher rarity gives a larger hunt reward multiplier — from 1× (Common) up to 5× (Legendary) — and is rarer to pull from packs. Rarity also applies to artifacts, essences, and other items.

Hunting & Combat

Hunt — The core gameplay loop: sending a party of characters to fight a wave of mobs in exchange for loot. The best in-game way to earn resources.

Hunting Ground — A location on the map where you hunt. Each ground has its own mobs and loot table.

Swamplands — The first and most beginner-friendly hunting ground, near New Haven.

Mob — An enemy monster faced during a hunt.

Party — A group of 1 to 5 characters sent on a single hunt or boss fight.

Party Leader — The character (and owner) who claims the loot from a successful hunt; all boss loot rolls also go to the party leader.

Difficulty — A setting from 1 (easiest) to 5 (hardest) that scales the number of mobs, the number of loot drops, and the cooldown your survivors receive. Higher difficulty means more reward but more danger.

Pair-Duel — How combat resolves: characters and mobs fight one-on-one in order; when one falls, the next steps up, until either your party or all the mobs are defeated.

Cooldown — A period during which a character can't act after a hunt or boss fight.

Survivor Cooldown — The cooldown a surviving character receives after a hunt, equal to 5 minutes × the difficulty (5 minutes at difficulty 1, up to 25 minutes at difficulty 5).

Death Cooldown — The 60-minute cooldown a character receives if it falls in battle.

Boss — A powerful, high-reward monster with a shared HP pool that the whole community can fight together. You earn one loot-table roll for every 1% of its max HP you damage.

Private Boss — A summoned boss that only the summoner can attack. It costs 50% more to summon and has 50% more HP than a public boss.

Summon — Spawning a boss using the Summon button on the Bosses screen. Summoners get an extra loot roll when the boss dies.

Items, Crafting & Economy

GOLD — The primary in-game currency and token (symbol: GOLD), earned by hunting and spent on crafting, upgrades, and trading.

Loot Table — A weighted list of possible rewards from a monster or boss. Examples include the Token, Essence, and Artifact loot tables, each with its own drop odds.

Drop — An individual item awarded from a loot table after a successful hunt.

Staking — Granting the game contract permission to use your items, tokens, or NFTs so you can access gameplay. Items must be staked to be equipped, used, or salvaged.

Unstaking — Reversing staking to reclaim full control of your assets. There's a 24-hour unstaking cooldown; characters must be at full HP and off cooldown before they can be unstaked.

Crafting — Combining crafting materials and GOLD into more powerful items. Crafting consumes (burns) the ingredients from your staked inventory.

Recipe — The specific combination of materials and GOLD required to craft a given item. Recipes may change for balance or new features.

Crafting Materials — Resources earned from hunts and used in recipes, such as SLIME, SHELL, PELT, RBTMEAT, BONE, and IRNWOOD.

Salvage — Breaking down equipment you no longer need into 3–5 Equipment Essence of the same rarity as the item.

Essence — A crafting/upgrade resource that comes in rarities from Common to Legendary. Equipment Essence (CEE, UEE, REE, EEE, LEE) is used in equipment recipes; essence is also used to upgrade artifacts.

Artifact — An NFT that a character equips to boost its stats. Artifacts have a Set, Level, Primary Stat, optional Substats, and a Slot, and will eventually replace the older equipment system.

Set — A grouping of artifacts (e.g. Constitution) that grants bonus effects when enough pieces of the same set are equipped.

Primary Stat — The main stat an artifact boosts (such as ATK, DEF, or HP), which increases as the artifact is upgraded.

Substat — Additional bonus stats an artifact can provide on top of its primary stat.

Slot — The equipment position an artifact fits into; each slot allows specific primary-stat bonuses.

Blending — Combining duplicate items into a rarer, stronger item via the third-party site NeftyBlocks. Note: the team is moving away from blends, with limited support going forward.

NeftyBlocks — The third-party WAX platform used for blending BlockchainRPG items.

Sticker — A collectible NFT with no in-game stat benefit; holding one in your unstaked inventory unlocks the matching emoji in the Discord server.

Pack / Drop — A purchasable bundle (such as the Starter Pack) that can contain characters and items at various rarities.

Referral — A system that rewards you 10% of the sale price when someone you referred buys an eligible pack drop, subject to conditions.

Healing & Consumables

Auto-Regen — Passive healing that restores 10% of a character's max HP every hour, for free.

HPPOT (Small Health Potion) — A consumable that heals 50 HP with no cooldown.

Rabbit Stew — A consumable that fully restores a character's HP and resets its cooldown.

Blockchain

WAX (Worldwide Asset eXchange) — The blockchain BlockchainRPG runs on. Released in 2017, it's a purpose-built, delegated-proof-of-stake chain designed for fast, low-cost gaming and e-commerce transactions.

WAX Wallet / WAX Cloud Wallet — The wallet you use to hold your assets and sign in-game transactions. The Cloud Wallet is the easiest way to get started — see our wallet creation guide.

NFT (Non-Fungible Token) — A unique, individually-owned blockchain asset. In BlockchainRPG, characters, artifacts, and stickers are NFTs that belong to you and can be traded.

Staking (blockchain sense) — See Staking above. In BlockchainRPG, staking specifically means authorizing the game contract to use your assets so you can play.
