Getting Started
What is BlockchainRPG?
BlockchainRPG is a hunting-based role-playing game (RPG) built on the WAX blockchain. You play an adventurer in the world of Aurum, hunting monsters to earn GOLD (the in-game token), equipment, crafting materials, and rare NFTs. The items you earn are yours — you can use them in-game, or trade, buy, and sell them with other players. Learn more on our About page and in the Introduction.
What do I need to start playing?
You need two things:
- A WAX wallet to interact with the game's smart contracts. The easiest option is a WAX Cloud Wallet — see our step-by-step wallet creation guide.
- A Character NFT, staked and recruited. Every player needs at least one character to play. You can get one from the Starter Pack Drop or from the secondary markets.
Once you have both, follow the Getting Started guide to go on your first hunt.
Why is a Character NFT required to play?
The Character NFT requirement helps reduce bots, supports ongoing development, and funds continuous updates to the game. Each player must have a Character NFT staked and recruited before they can hunt.
Is BlockchainRPG free to play?
You need at least one Character NFT to start, which has a cost on the primary or secondary market. After that, core gameplay like hunting is free — you spend in-game resources and time rather than real money, though you can optionally buy packs and items.
What blockchain does the game run on?
BlockchainRPG runs on the WAX (Worldwide Asset eXchange) blockchain, a purpose-built blockchain designed for fast, low-cost e-commerce and gaming transactions. If you're new to blockchain, start with What is the Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and WAX?
What is GOLD?
GOLD is the primary in-game currency and token (symbol: GOLD). You earn it by hunting and use it for crafting, upgrading artifacts, and trading within the game's economy.
Hunting & Combat
How does hunting work?
Hunting is the primary way to earn resources and loot. You send a party of 1 to 5 characters into a hunting ground to face a wave of mobs. Combat is resolved automatically based on your party's stats and the difficulty you choose. If your party defeats all the mobs, you claim the loot. See the full Hunting guide for details.
What do the difficulty levels do?
Difficulty ranges from 1 (easiest) to 5 (hardest). Higher difficulty means more mobs and more loot drops if you succeed — but mobs deal significantly more damage. Difficulty also determines the cooldown your surviving characters get after the hunt (5 minutes × difficulty).
What happens if my character dies during a hunt?
A character that falls in battle receives a 60-minute death cooldown and cannot be used until it recovers. Defeated characters earn no loot from that hunt. You can shorten downtime by healing — see below.
How do I heal my characters?
There are three ways to restore HP:
- Auto-regen: characters automatically recover 10% of their max HP every hour, for free.
- HPPOT (Small Health Potion): heals 50 HP with no cooldown.
- Rabbit Stew: fully restores HP and resets the character's cooldown.
See the Healing guide for more.
What are bosses?
Bosses are powerful, high-reward monsters that the whole community can fight together. A boss shares the same HP pool across everyone attacking it, so every hit contributes to bringing it down. You earn one roll on the boss's loot table for every 1% of its max HP you damage. Bosses can also be summoned, including private bosses only you can attack. See the Bosses guide.
Items, NFTs & the Economy
How does staking and unstaking work?
To use items, tokens, or NFTs in the game, you must first stake them (give the game contract permission to use them). You can unstake at any time, but there's a 24-hour unstaking cooldown to prevent abuse. Characters are a special case: a character must be at full HP and off cooldown before it can be unstaked. See the Staking guide.
What's the difference between equipment and artifacts?
Equipment is the original gear system. Artifacts are a newer NFT system that characters equip to improve their stats, with sets, levels, primary stats, and substats. Players can currently use either system, but the switch to artifacts will be mandatory in a future update. See the Artifacts guide.
What is salvaging?
Salvaging lets you break down equipment you no longer need into crafting materials. Salvaging an item rewards 3–5 Equipment Essence of the same rarity as the item, which is then used in crafting recipes. See the Salvage guide.
How do referrals work?
When someone signs up with your referral link and purchases an eligible pack drop, you earn 10% of the sale price as a reward. To receive rewards, you must have a registered account with a Character card staked. See the Referral System for full conditions.
What are stickers?
Stickers are collectible NFTs you can acquire, trade, and sell. They currently provide no in-game stat benefits, but holding a sticker in your unstaked inventory unlocks the matching emoji in our Discord server. See the Stickers page.
Where can I buy character packs and items?
You can buy from the official Starter Pack Drop, the official shop, or from WAX secondary markets. Always double-check you're using an official link to avoid scams.
